Extended Characters in Fonts

Anyone else have problems using extended or lower listed characters in selecting fonts?

For instance, if I use the Arial font and the Character Map, I select the "1/4" fraction character and copy it into my text box it works fine. However, if I scroll much further down the character map and select the "1/8"  fraction character and copy it I get a "?"

I've found that to be the case with Verdana, Times New Roman and others. I downloaded KG Fractions font that has fractions higher up in the map but they don't look good and it becomes problematic using multiple fonts.
