Quizzes for VisualNeo Web

Hi,

As I would love to try to work on the creation on my own quizzes like I did previously with Neobook, I have a bit on an issue with the time and other projects I have to attend to.

So, my question is simple... is there somebody who could make me some quizzes templates for VisualNeo Web (connected to a database) and what how much this person would charge for such a project?

If you want more info, let me know and I will tell you what kind of quizzes I am thinking about.

Have a great day,

Vincent

I could take a stab at creating a template/sample App ... if it is ok with you, instead of a charge, the template/sample would be freely available to the whole community (add even more value to the VisualNEOWeb product offering).

Also, unless you have some complex requirements for storing/reporting of student results, a database may not be required ... text/json files would suffice

If you want more info, let me know and I will tell you what kind of quizzes I am thinking about.

It would help to gather your thoughts (and of other interested parties) before embarking on the development.

Of course, it would be perfect to make a template for the community, it would be great. But also, if it requires a lot of work, I can support it too.

The quizzes that I used to do were quite simple and they did not need any complex requirements for reporting or storing anything.

Here are the type of quizzes that I have made with Neobook before and that my students liked:

FOR EACH QUIZ

- Everything was shuffled so the order of the questions would change each time

- The pictures and the audio files were included in the final EXE so it was really easy to give the file to my students

- It was connected to an excel file (XLS old format), the XLS file was inserted in the EXE

- I made for each type of quizzes a separate page to add the questions and the files

- At the end of the quiz, there was a page with basic stats: CORRECT ANSWERS, WRONG ANSWERS, PERCENTAGE OF GOOD ANSWERS and the option to do the quiz again with a reset of all the answers and the shuffling of the questions so that they don't appear in the same order.

- I had to add to had a little delay between the questions because some of my students found that by clicking fast... it would mess up the whole thing

----------------------------

QUIZZES

AUDIO

-You hear a word and you need to click on one of 3 pictures shown that matches the word.

-You hear a word and you need to click on the correct written form

-You hear a word and you need to write it properly

TEXT

-You see a word (in one language) and you need to click on one of 3 pictures that match the word.

-You see a word (in one language) and you need to click on one of 3 translations offered.

-You see a word (in one language) and you need to write the proper translation.

PICTURE

-You see a picture and you need to click on one of the 3 words

-You see a picture and you need to write the proper word.

-You see a picture and you need to click on the correct sound.

I also had some drag and drop quizzes, but I don't think that it would be relevant to focus on that if it represents too much work.

If you need more info on the way it looked like, let me know...

Have a great day and I hope that the weather is nicer where you are than here... winter arrived in the south of Finland,

Thank you for the detailed response ... I was thinking of a "multiple-choice" type of quiz ... but this is doable as well.

did not need any complex requirements for reporting or storing anything

That makes it much simpler to develop ... probably leave this feature for v2.0

Everything was shuffled so the order of the questions would change each time

Had not thought of that either ... but easy to implement

The pictures and the audio files were included in the final EXE so it was really easy to give the file to my students

I was thinking in terms of a Web App ... so the files could remain resident (and be accessed from a server location)

If you were thinking of Native Apps, I am not sure (I do not develop Apps of this nature).

It was connected to an excel file (XLS old format), the XLS file was inserted in the EXE

Can you provide details (columns and rows) of the content of such a file ?

I am assuming it would contain the control (question, answers/associated file names, correct answer) type of information.

With Web/Native Apps, such embedding would not be allowed, but there are other ways (file formats) of constructing such information ...possibly even with another (Quizmaster) App

I also had some drag and drop quizzes, but I don't think that it would be relevant to focus on that if it represents too much work

v2.0

Yes, we have had a great summer and fall (autumn) so far in Toronto ... but some parts of Canada experienced snow in July/August.

Funny you never hear about great weather anymore, only forecasts about the end of the world !!! ... I can't wait for the day when we can grow olives and bananas in/around Toronto ... all year round :-))

Hi Gaev,

Sorry for the delay, I had something to finish and I avoid multitasking because I know that I am not good at that.

I will have a look at my hard drive and find the excel file that contained the info, I will send it right away.

Thanks for your patience and sorry about that,

Vincent

Hi again,

I made a zip with the files. The quiz as well as the editor and the files where the data is stored.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great day,

Vincent

@vincent-lefrancois

I downloaded the zip file.

It contains a couple of exe files (sorry, but I do not run such exe files on my laptop for security reasons).

It also contained a data folder that contained a dbf/dbt file combo ... I was looking for a description of the contents of the excel file that you mentioned in your earlier post; can you explain how the dbf/dbt relates to the excel file contents ? Later, I will examine the debf/dbt file for its contents.

At this time, all I need is a description of the contents (column names or field names) so I can determine the scope of the required app.

Hi Gaev,

Sorry about the fact that the files were not what you were expecting. In the zip, you had the dbf/dbt that were used with the DX plugin for storing the audio files and the pictures (the DBT file) for the quizzes that were using them. But in fact the dbf or excel had the same appearance and the same structure, so whatever type of exercise it would be, I would use the same columns and do different things with the values in them:

QUESTION
SOUND
PICTURE
ANSWER1
ANSWER2
ANSWER3
ANSWER4
CORRECT

Hope it answers your question and your needs.

Have a great day... and it is for sure getting fresher and fresher here in Helsinki.

Vincent

@vincent-lefrancois

Thank you for the additional information.

Looks like this can be developed as a Web App (as stated before, I am not sure about Native App; perhaps, once this is developed, someone else can take the code and make it into a Native App).

I could not view your dbf/dbt files last night because my laptop was missing the neoDBF plugin; now that @luishp has shown me where to download it, I will review your files tonight. I will get back to you after I review them.

P.S. As I am recovering from a pinched nerve, I am only able to undertake small duration tasks; so please be patient.

Hi Gaev,

It sounds great and there is no real rush for the project, I thought it would be great to have quizzes that way too and I am really sure that it will bring some value to Visual Neo if these templates can be used by others.

I hope you take the time to recover and that in Toronto the climate situation is not like here... first snow arrived this morning. It is all white here.

I am in the process of defining initial/subsequent requirements/features for such an App (including conventional quiz types like questions with multiple choice answers).

The images and audio files will be stored externally (on a server or (if permitted by Browsers) locally).

The control information (questions/answers) will be embed-able (csv, json format) or on external text files (csv, json) or database (future).

The ability for users to register/sign-in and have their results/scores saved, will be a future feature.

I am still looking at how to handle multiple languages ... questions/answers/responses can all be in the control information ... but there will also be other generic UI stuff.

Suggestions for other requirements/features are solicited here.

LOL, last night we had our first snow too .. less than an inch (25 mm) ... not my favourite time of year, but at least we don't get massive fires in the summer.
