Using the Web Browser function to embed a document from the Internet has never caused me any problems while using earlier versions of the programme (when it was called Neobook). However, with NeoWin, whenever I attempt to load a document from Google Drive, it prompts me to "update your browser"

... Google stopped supporting Internet Explorer Browser as of october2, 2021.
Since NeoBook (and rebranded VisualNEOWin) used Internet Explorer to render the contents of web pages inside its Browser object, it means that you can no longer view Google Drive assets inside these Web Browsers objects.
and fails to display the documents. I use the most recent Chrome, Brave, and Tor versions.
Google is referring to the Internet Explorer Browser used to display the contents of the Web Browser object.
Imagine if, in addition to the latest versions of Chrome, Brave, and Tor browsers, you also (somehow) had Internet Explorer on your computer ... Google Drive assets would be rendered just fine in those other browsers, but it would balk at rendering the same asset in Internet Explorer.
As stated by @luishp, you need one of the listed plugins in order to have the rendering done by a more modern Browser.
